OUR TEAM
Flourish hosts a weekend retreat following the annual SPSP conference meetings. These retreats are the core of our programming. In these spaces we offer the following to each Flourish cohort; opportunities to network with other pre-tenure faculty of color in social and personality psychology; engaging panels with recently tenured faculty and senior faculty in the field; time for structured discussion of pressing issues and concerns related to the tenure process; and guided workshops related to wellness, identity, and intersectionality. Attendees are offered financial support through conference registration waivers or travel reimbursements. Additionally, we offer complimentary lodging and meals for attendees during the retreat and an honorarium following the program. We offer curated See Annual Retreat tab for more information!
In-Person Writing Retreats
As the Flourish network continues to expand, Flourish plans to host additional in-person professional development opportunities Our Summer writing retreats will provide attendees with focused time for scholarship development, peer feedback, and community building.
We plan to invite attendees to an all-inclusive writing retreat space specifically designed by and for academics to support pre-tenure faculty. Multiple Flourish writing retreats will host small groups and include meals, lodging, and structured programming aimed at advancing attendees’ tenure and research goals. Participants are expected to cover their own transportation costs to and from the retreat location.
Flourish is also exploring the possibility of hosting localized writing retreats hosted at institutions across geographic regions in the United States. These retreats would follow the structure of the post-SPSP retreat, ensuring a familiar and effective experience for attendees. Participants would cover their own travel expenses.
Year-Round Writing Support Activities
In addition to the summer retreats, Flourish offers a suite of year-round activities to sustain the benefits of community writing support:
Weekly Writing Accountability Sessions:
These sessions provide a consistent and supportive structure for writing productivity. Conducted twice per week via Zoom in 10-15 week periods during the fall, spring, and summer months (totaling 25 weeks annually), each session includes:
A brief goal-setting check-in.
Three 25-minute focused writing blocks, interspersed with 5-minute breaks for reflection, problem-solving, and community building.
Virtual Writing Retreats:
Flourish also organizes virtual day-long writing retreats facilitated by Caveday, a company specializing in focused work sessions. These retreats are scheduled around major grant and fellowship deadlines to help attendees maximize productivity at critical times. A structured working session is offered and participants are provided virtual gift cards for meals during the retreat.
In-Person Writing Retreats:
Building on the success of the weekly and virtual sessions, Flourish is introducing summer in-person writing retreats. These retreats will foster deeper collaboration, feedback, and connection among attendees, complementing the existing online summer writing sessions. See the In-Person Writing Retreat section for more details.
By combining virtual and in-person opportunities, Flourish provides a comprehensive network of support for research and scholarship development, allowing attendees to stay productive and engaged year-round in service of their tenure review.
We offer several avenues for networking year round. See the Contact Us tab to join our mailing list!
